The Bayer Group regularly holds conferences - such as this one in Cologne in 2019 - to discuss and further develop its corporate strategy in the area of inclusion and diversity.


We employ people from around 145 nations. Creating an inclusive environment where employees of all genders, ethnicities, backgrounds, abilities and orientations feel welcome and able to contribute is core to creating a great place to work. Our employees proudly reflect the society we live in and demonstrate the value of diverse thinking in bringing best in class solutions for the benefit of all. We search for the brightest talent, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability, veteran status, gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation.


Our Employees


Bayer has endeavored to achieve a better gender balance in management. The proportion of women in upper management in 2019 was 34.8%. The proportion of women in the Group Leadership Circle, the highest management level below the Board of Management, increased again in 2019 compared to previous years. By the end of 2019, it was made up of 22.5% women (compared to 6.5% as reported in 2010) and 77.5% men. The Group Leadership Circle currently comprises 29 nationalities, with around 65% of its members working in their native country.

People with disabilities are an integral part of our workforce. Based on voluntary statements by employees, we employ some 2,250 people with disabilities in 31 countries, 46% of whom are women and 54% men. That represents around 2.1% of our total workforce. Most employees with disabilities work for our companies in Germany, where they made up 4.7% of the workforce in 2019. Our Business Resource Group, ENABLE is dedicated to the overall wellness and development of employees with apparent and non-apparent disabilities and employees with children, family or friends with disabilities.

Business Resource Groups (BRGs)

BRGs are a vital part of Bayer’s Inclusion and Diversity (I&D) efforts. By giving a voice to diverse constituencies within our company and to our customers, the business resource groups assist Bayer with cultivating an inclusive workplace and bringing targeted products and services to our customers. BRGs are voluntary, company sponsored groups of employees who work together to promote inclusion within Bayer and provide a multicultural lens to Bayer’s engagement of our customers and the communities in which we have operations. Business resource groups present opportunities for employees to participate in on the job leadership development experiences at the site, national and global level that align with our LIFE values.


BLEND, Bayer’s Business Resource Group for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) individuals and their allies, is one of the largest and oldest BRGs at Bayer. Its members stand up for respect and equal rights within and outside the company, as here at the CSD in Cologne.


Three of Bayer’s nine company recognized BRGs have a global footprint with chapters in several continents. Each are globally sponsored by a Board of Management member and Executive Sponsor from the business to 1) receive direct mentorship and business guidance to support critical I&D objectives and 2) provide reverse mentorship to the executives along with multicultural perspectives to help them shape how we engage our customers, community and culture. Additionally, all nine of Bayer’s business resource groups have local sponsors at the country and/or local site level to support their efforts.

Partnering our senior leaders with our global Business Resource Groups will help us embrace a variety of cultures, perspectives, and identities to inform our business strategies and create an even more inclusive environment where our employees can thrive.
