Bayer Australia - Supplier of innovative solutions

Supplier of innovative solutions

For many years Bayer New Zealand has been a supplier of raw materials to the country’s manufacturers across a wide range of industries.

This continues today through the Bayer Agency Business, which not only supplies raw materials, but solutions too. One well known New Zealand company Bayer maintains a close relationship with is Tait Radio Communications, an innovative provider of radio solutions.

“Our mobile radios are used in a range of demanding situations around the world, particularly by rescue services such as the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service. It’s therefore important that our radios are tough – lives could quite simply depend on it,” says Tait spokesman Leon Erasmuson.

This is where Bayer comes into the picture as supplier of Makroblend®, a blend of Makrolon® polycarbonate and polyethylene terephthalate produced by Bayer MaterialScience.

Makroblend is characterised by its toughness at both high and low temperatures, good chemical resistance and a low susceptibility to stress cracking. Over the years, it has proven to be an ideal choice for the Tait radio body.

Other Bayer products have also been incorporated into the design of Tait’s new radios. For example, Desmopan®, a soft yet tough thermoplastic polyurethane, has been added to radio edges giving a soft-touch finish. Makrolon® has also been used in the virtually unbreakable, clear radio lenses.

“It’s helpful to work with a global company such as Bayer which can offer international support, from material selection to tool design, and from initial concepts through to final production,” adds Mr Erasmuson.
